The Trail currently runs from Garden Plain through Goddard and as far east as 161st W. The railroad bed continues into Wichita but is overgrown and not open for use. This would be a simple trail improvement that would open up the use of a long trail that connects with the new planned bike trail in West Wichita. Upon extension of this trail the city of Wichita could make a trail network along the railroad into downtown and more importantly to the Big Ditch. The Big Ditch would be an excellent trail as the levee is allready in place it just need to be mainted for biking. This would also allow for the trail to be connected to the Zoo and Sedgwick County Park!

Currently there is a sign to get off bicycle and walk across the bridge. Since there is a bike route on both sides of the bridge it would make sense to allow riders to use bridge in a normal fashion. Perhaps the south side of the bridge could be for foot traffic and the north side for riders. Of course the fundamental problem is the lane across the bridge is currently too narrow to ride (hence the sign).

Crossing is difficult because traffic turning right off of Geo Washington heading north on Oliver must not have a red light when the Walk sign is on for crossing from the east side of Oliver to the west side. Or, traffic regularly turns right on red there and has no vision of the crosswalk until they have accelerated. I have nearly been hit here in the early AM many times.

Tyler road is barely wide enough for cyclists. When I bike to Cessna (work for me) this is the way I go. But the from Yosemite to K-42 is the stretch that scares me the most. Speed limit is 45mph, but people regularly do 50+. Shoulder is too narrow for cyclists.

21st street bottlenecks to this bridge and leaves no room for cyclists in heavy traffic. East of this bridge theres a nice wide shoulder to bike on if you choose not to use the sedgwick county park paths. Serious cyclists hate riding through the park because there't too many close calls with people walking dogs not paying attention. Also, I've seen pedestrians walking on the north side of the street go over the dam from teh little lake to the north when it's barely flowing.

The sidewalk on the north side of Pawnee between Webb and Rock is classed as a multi-use path. Vehicles stop well past the sidewalk; cars don't look for bikes on the sidewalk and I've had several close calls here.

Please add shoulders from Meridian street to Colwich on 53rd. 53rd is a main path to get from NW wichita to NE wichita and it is an extrememly dangerous road due to 55mph traffic, no shoulders and dump trucks from all the sand pits. Please add shoulders from Meridian street to Colwich on 53rd.

135th has lots of new housing going up, but is not prepared to handle the traffic volume. please add shoulders to allow cyclists safe passage from these neighborhoods to 21st street where most people do long distance cycling.

Many cyclists ride west 21st street for long distance cycling (20+ miles). When they get back to the city from teh west, this is the first intersection they encounter. 2 lane becomes 4 lanes and cyclists get squeezed in the middle of all this. If you need to go north on 119th, you have to use the left turn lane and hope the light will give you a green arrow. Somehow this could be improved.

There are few paths across I135 and this one forces you across the broadway train tracks and through this industrial area wiht no shoulders. Could use improvements as far west as Arkansas St or Amidon if possible.

From K96 to the train tracks just north of 29th street some type of improvement needs done. Lots of traffic, no sidewalks, shoulders are typically sandy...it's not a good area for cyclists, but could be a path to points north.

Businesses have this uncanny ability to put huge walls of signs right next to sidwalks and bike paths that makes for blind corners and places for accidents to happen. Specifically beside Spangles and the Tire store to the north of it. in order to get from the 21st street bike path to the path that starts at Sterling st and Maize road, you are forced to ride through all these business exits where people are hardly looking out for bikes. And then the bike path goes by Lowes and all these new fast food places...it's hardly a safe place to ride even though you're on the bike path!

many cyclists use 119th to access 21st for long distance biking out west. it gets pretty tight between Central and 13th street. Also, lots of big cracks in all the streets asphalt out here, both main streets and in the neighborhoods.

Path ends (east side); paths starts again on the west side at the entrance to the school. Have to ride down Tyler (no shoulder) to get to 37th.

There is only one ramp at each corner at the intersections along 21st. You have to ride up the ramp; turn around then ride back down to cross the other street.

The Maize Rd to K-42 path would open up a very reasonable bike ride to Cessna for many people in the area. Currently, south of Pawnee, there isn't enough of a shoulder for an amature bike rider to safely and comfortably ride.
