Situated in the Phoenix Park, The Zoological Gardens were established in 1830. They were laid out by Decimus Burton, architect to the Zoological Society of London, and opened to the public on 1 September 1831.

: Phoenix Park

The Phoenix Park was formed as a Royal Deer Park in Dublin in 1662. Its name is thought to be derived from the Irish word Fionnuisce, a spring of clear water. It originally encompassed 2,000 acres, and was stocked with deer, partridges and pheasants. In 1745 it was redeveloped as a recreation centre for the citizens of Dublin, during which period much of the shrub planting and system of paths seen today was established. It now covers 1,752 acres and remains one of the largest enclosed urban parks in the world. It contains the People's Gardens; Dublin Zoo; the residence of the President of Ireland (Áras an Uachtaráin) and that of the United States Ambassador; St. Mary's Hospital built as the Royal Hiberian Military School; and the Department of Defence, formerly the Royal Military Infirmary, as well as the Phoenix Monument, which was erected in 1747.

: Four Courts, Inns Quay

On 13 March 1786 the foundation stone of the Four Courts was laid by the fourth Duke of Rutland, Lord Lieutenant, integrating the Four Courts into the plans for the Public Record Office on Inns Quay, where work had commenced in 1776. Ten years later the building was sufficiently completed for the courts to sit, and the work was finished in 1801. The building was severely bombarded in 1922 when the Civil War broke out, and the Public Record Office Fire meant that many records of the country were destroyed.

The earliest manuscript dates Christ Church cathedral to its present location around 1030.

: Dublin Castle

The original castle was completed about 1215, under the instructions of King John. This structure was subsequently repaired several times, with major reconstructions occurring during the sixteenth and eighteenth centuries. For 700 years, until the takeover in 1922, the castle was the seat of English rule in Ireland.

Dame Street was called after Dame's Gate or the Gate of St. Mary at the eastern side of the city. The street was widened in 1769 by the Wide Street Commissioners.

: South Great George's Street

Formerly St. George's Lane, this street was named after a church dedicated to St. George, which stood here in 1181. It was rebuilt in 1213 and stood until 1586. The South City Markets opened in 1881, designed by Lockwood and Mawson. The area had previously held the Castle Market in the 18th century.

: St. Patrick's Cathedral

St. Patrick's Cathedral stands on the oldest Christian site in Dublin. A church has stood here since 450AD. The present building dates back to 1191. The interior of St. Patrick's Cathedral reflects the Celtic, Anglo-Norman medieval and Anglo-Irish traditions

Named after the second Duke of Grafton, this street dates back to the early 1700s. It was a fashionable residential street in the 18th century. In 1982 the street was zoned for pedestrians only.

Formerly called Hoggen Green, then renamed for its proximity to Trinity College in 1666. Trinity College was founded in 1592. The Bank of Ireland was originally built as the Parliament House.

Although founded in 1592, it was not until the 18th century that Trinity College's Parliament Square took on the shape we know today. The Campanile or Bell Tower was donated in 1853 by the Archbishop of Armagh, Lord Beresford.

Westmoreland Street was named after John Fane, 10th Earl of Westmoreland, Lord Lieutenant 1790-1794. It was one of the last major schemes to be undertaken by the Wide Streets Commissioners.

O'Connell Bridge, formerly Carlisle Bridge was renamed after Daniel O'Connell in 1882. It was widened in 1880. Sackville Street was named after Lionel Cranfield Sackville, 1st Duke of Dorset and Lord Lieutenant 1731-1737, 1751-1755.

: St. Stephen's Green

The main entrance of St. Stephen's Green is a memorial arch facing Grafton Street. It commemorates the Dublin Fusiliers who served in the Boer War. St. Stephen's Green was first marked out by the Corporation in 1664. In the eighteenth century the north side of the Green was a popular promenade known as 'Beaux Walk'.
