An citizen science effort to map the distribution and population of the threatened Northern Caracara throughout Florida. Why is this important? Caracara (Caracara cheriway) are listed as a threatened species throughout the United States. Florida is rapidly losing habitat that they can utilize and a population and distribution survey has not been made on a statewide scale since the 1970's. With budget cuts, and developers interests taking hold, not much effort is being made to protect our native species. By utilizing the Public's eyes and ears, we can better understand the big picture of what's going on, and push for more research into keeping our environment in it's natural and best state.
