Grade Two - 2.1 Canada's Dynamic Communities

G.O Students will demonstrate an understanding and appreciation of how geography, culture, language, hertiage, economics and resources shape and change Canada's communities.

Specfic Outcomes
2.1.1 Students will appreciate how community's physical geography shapes identity (I,LPP)

2.1.2
Students will investigate the physical geography of a prairie community in Canada by exploring and reflecting the following questions for inquiry:
-What geographic factors determined the establishment of each community (e.g., soil, water and climate)? (LPP, TCC)
-How does the physical geography of each community shape its identity? (CC, I)


Project Description

In the grade two curriculum, students compare an Inuit, an Acadian, and a Prairie community. This map is one in a set of three used to help students identify how the unique geographical characteristics of each region have shaped each community's identity. Along with questions found at some of the locations, students will be using information from the entire map to answer the following questions:

What made these places key factors in building the community of Drumheller?

How do these places support the community of Drumheller today?
