This unusual little building has an interesting history. It was originally built in 1894, designed
by J. Gaff Gillespie (1870-1926), and started out as the offices of the Scottish Temperance League. The Temperance League reduced in size, and the building was converted to the Daily Record offices in 1919. It was joined to the building behind it, which was the Daily Record Printing Office (designed by Charles Rennie Mackintosh).
This is a very narrow building which has been hemmed in a little by the buildings on either side. The figure carvings were made by the sculptor Richard Ferris, and show three figures crowning the top storey of the building. There are also carved roundels with inset female figures on the first floor.
