Marker reads, The president Confederate States Army, in 1862, was authorized to confer a Medal of Honour upon one enlisted man in each company every signal victory. At first dress-parade thereafter, the men engaged in battle chose, by vote, the soldier most worthy to receive this honour. 72 Kentuckians coming from 34 counties were so honoured. Three were from Daviess County.
