Marker reads, July 2, 1863, Confederate States Army General John Hunt Morgan began raid to prevent Union States Army move to Tennessee and Virginia. Repulsed at Green River, July 4. Defeated a Union States Army force at Lebanon, July 5. Moved through Bardstown, July 6. After night march, crossed here July 7. Rested troops few hours and proceeded to Brandenburg. Crossed to Indiana, July 8. He continued raid until captured in northeast Ohio, July 26.
