Do to the fact that the revolt of the Kurds had failed, the countries “ethnic cleansing/Arabization Campaign began to run strong. This cleansing was begun by the Ba’th government and involved the systematic extermination of all those of the Kurdish culture. One reason for this was because the Kurdish people lived in a land that was rich in oil, which the Iraqi government wanted. During this time, the Kurdish people were forced out of their homes sent to refugee camps moved into “collective” towns or worse, killed in mass numbers. Once all of the Kurds were removed from the land, the area filled with rich pockets of oil became off limits to anyone, especially Kurds.
