"3 Squares Gyratory" By George Rickey,
West Quadrangle, Glasgow University
This kinetic sculpture moves gently in the wind. The three panels of polished stainless steel have been arranged around a special axle so that they revolve around each other when they are blown by the breeze. The sun glints off the shining metal and can be seen reflecting off the walls of the university all around. In this sculpture, the stainless steel has been polished randomly with a grinding machine, which leaves the marks which catch the light on the surface.
