Marker reads, Twenty-two Kentucky courthouses were burned during Civil War, nineteen in fifteen months: twelve by Confederates, eight by guerrillas, two by Union accident. See map on reverse side. December 28, 1864, guerrillas set fire to courthouse at Hardinsburg but citizens saved building and records. Confederate States Army came in and allowed public to keep arms for defense.
