The Jewish philosopher Philio of Alexandria recorded the first act of anti-Semitism as having taken place in the city of Alexandria in 38 B.C. Philio described an attack on the Jewish community which left thousands of Jews killed; however the validity of this early account (the ancients were prone to over-exaggeration) must be brought into question.
