Amherst Ski Club (Mt. Vernon)
Category: Abandoned Ski Areas
**April 2009**
Trails: Very hard to see much from the road, as this area is a very thick, deep, pine forest now, but I could definitely see a graded out flat trail/road winding down the side to the former base area. This must have been from one of the former woods trails.
Lifts: Nothing visible from the road. Woods too thick.
Facilities: Nothing.
Accessibility: Although the land wasn't posted, or near what appeared to be ANYONE'S home, getting to this area would prove to be a bit difficult. Even in this ski area's heyday, there was parking for a max of maybe 10 cars along the side of Brook Road, which today is a narrow 1.5 lane dirt road. You'd have to park at least 1/4 to 1/2 a mile away to find a place where the road is wide enough to park safely. The brook that separates the road and ski area might be a bit of a challenge to cross too. What seemed more interesting was the abandoned looking (posted) railroad museum about 1/2 of a mile down the road from the old ski area.
