Arctic Circle Hot Springs is actually 50 miles short of the Arctic Circle, the original settlers making a miscalculation. It is a small community 128 miles from Fairbanks . . . said to be one of the best places to view the Aurora Borealis.
The spring pumps out water at 136F and in sufficient quantity to turnover the water in a large swimming pool in 18 hours . . . as well as provide the geothermal heat to the hotel the pool is connected with. The water is chlorinated in the pool because of the heavy use it gets.
The hotel has recently been refurbished and sports comfortable rooms and a hotel on the top floor. Good food, a bar and friendly people. The hotel and facilities are open year-round.
There is also a campground with facilities located two miles back on the spur road to the resort.
From the start of the Steese Highway in Fairbanks, drive 128 miles to the Circle Hot Springs turnoff. Go 8.3 miles down until you're almost at the small airport. The resort is on your right.
