Detectives are investigating the assault of a North Cairns man early this morning. The incident occurred near the intersection of Gelling and Beryl streets around 2.00am. It is alleged that the man was walking along Gelling Street when he was chased and set upon by a male who proceeded to assault him. Another male offender then approached and stole the man’s wallet. The offenders are described as being aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander in appearance and aged between 13 and 17 years.
