Smithfield Detectives are investigating the attempted robbery of a bus driver at Clifton Beach on Saturday night. It is alleged that the offender boarded the bus at Palm Cove and had consumed liquor once underway. The driver subsequently stopped the bus on Upolo Esplanade at Clifton Beach and ordered the man to leave. The man is alleged to have grabbed money from the fare till as he got off and a struggle ensued. The man then allegedly punched the driver before damaging communications equipment on the bus and running into scrub land. The driver suffered a small laceration as well as bruising and swelling as a result of the attack. The offender is described as being a male Caucasian about 180cm tall and of muscular build. He is thought to be about 35 years of age and had short brown hair.
