Banner Good Samaritan is a teaching hospital that trains more than 220 physicians annually, a Level I trauma center and a premier medical center in Arizona and the Southwest. It provides a comprehensive foundation of major programs and a range of highly specialized programs not available in most hospitals. Highly specialized services, such as Blood Conservation Medicine, High-Risk Obstetrics, Neuroscience Clinics, the Positron Emission Tomography Center and the City of Hope-Banner Bone Marrow Transplant Program have emerged as leading programs in the region.

Banner Good Samaritan also offers state-of-the-art technology to allow for the most advanced diagnosis, treatment and ongoing care. For example, patients who are cared for in our neuro intensive care units not only have the care of nurses and physicians at the bedside, but an added level of protection through a telemedicine system called iCare which provides remote monitoring by specialists. These medical professionals watch for small changes in vital signs, or other indications that a patient’s condition is changing. For precise surgical interventions, patients at Banner Good Samaritan benefit from the latest robotic surgery technology performed with miniature instruments that cause less pain, less scarring and greatly reduces recovery time. In Labor and Delivery our patients are tracked by a computerized system called IPROB that helps reduce the incidence of complications during labor and delivery.

The new Simulation Education and Training (SimET) Center allows physicians, residents, nurses and first responders to work with the latest virtual reality simulators and robotic mannequins that breathe, code, bleed and even speak to explain their symptoms. In this way our staff can perfect new techniques and be prepared to recognize signs of rarely occurring complications.

Banner Good Samaritan has become an important research center in select clinical areas, particularly spinal cord injuries and Alzheimer’s disease. In fact, the Banner Alzheimer's Institute has gained national and international recognition for groundbreaking discoveries in Alzheimer’s research.

Banner Good Samaritan employs more than 3,600 health care professionals and support staff. Nearly 1,700 physicians representing more than 50 specialties work with Banner Good Samaritan staff to care for more than 36,000 inpatients a year.

Banner Good Samaritan is a Primary Stroke Center and was recently named one of “America’s Best Hospitals” by U.S.News & World Report with designations in Heart Care and Heart Surgery, Obstetrics and Gynecology, Kidney Disease and Urology. Banner Good Samaritan is also recognized as a Magnet facility by the American Nurses Credentialing Center, the highest honor a hospital can earn for its nursing care and practices.
