Bas-Relief by Eric Kennington,
James Watt Engineering Building, Glasgow University
This massive stone-carving represents the various types of science which humans have discovered and used to build civilizations. These two details show a blacksmith working on iron, and an engineer making measurements with a pair of calipers. This huge bas-relief would have been carved in separate blocks at Eric Kennington's studio, before being fitted together as part of the building. Unfortunately Eric Kennington died before the work was complete, in 1957.
