Belzek became operational in March of 1942. It was the first of the Nazi-German extermination camps created for impliment of operation Reinhard. (The plan to murder Polish-Jews in the general government.) Approximately 600,000 people were mudered, 400,000 of which were Jewish. In December of 1942, exterminations at the camp ceases. The camp was dismantaled, plowed over and planted on.
