Tursiops truncatus (Montague). Bottlenosed dolphin

An immature female was taken from the Petitcodiac River at Salisbury, New Brunswick, about September 15, 1950, by P. F. Elson of the Fisheries Research Board's St. Andrews Station . The river at that point is little more than a stream, although within tidal influence. The animal had probably entered the river on a flood tide from the Bay of Fundy, and had been trapped in the shallows upriver. So far as we know, this is the only definite record of this dolphin on the Atlantic coast of Canada, although its known range extends north to Maine.
