One feature of the Bosnian genocide that made it hauntingly similar to the Holocaust was the numerous detention camps littered all over Bosnia. The main occupants in all the camps were Muslim, with a significant Croat population in the northwestern camps. Conditions in the camps were horrible, and many journalists and humanitarian forces were denied access to them. The photographers that did make it to the camps were able to provide shocking images that brought world attention to the atrocities in Bosnia. While these camps were not marked for the death of all their occupants, over 10,000 people did die in the camps.
