Bronze By Benno Schotz,
Beside the River Kelvin, Kelvingrove Park
This curious abstract figure stands beside the river near some woods. This makes it seem very like a tree itself. The long upright poles look like branches on a tree, and the rugged brown texture of the surface looks very like tree-bark. Benno Schotz (1891-1984) was a well known Scottish sculptor who contributed his work to several public buildings, such as the Bank Of Scotland in Sauchiehall Street and Mercat Buildings at Glasgow Cross. Some of his smaller sculptures can also be seen in Glasgow Museum and Art Gallery.
