Cairns man charged over sword possession

A 33 year-old man was charged with unlawful possession of a knife in a public place on Saturday afternoon. Police observed the man walking through the carpark area of a popular Earlville family restaurant at about 2.15pm with a suspicious item carried on his back. Officers confirmed that the item was a sword in a scabbard and it was subsequently seized. The man was issued with a notice to appear in the Cairns Magistrates Court on April 18.
