Serrone, which reach toward the Tappino valley was originally an austere, feudal, fortified castle. It was then, during the 16th century, gentrified and transformed into a Renaissance residence for the Di Capua family.
This fact of being a residence has kept the castle from falling into disrepair, as so many in the region have, and it is in good overall condition, corroborated with valid internal restoration. Today the castle seems like a sumptuous picture gallery thanks to the numerous Manneristic frescoes painted in the 16th century by Donato di Copertino and his students.
