Charlestown Bridge

Category: 1. Route you use regularly

Used in the following map:

Boston Bicycle Network Plan

The bridge is wide enough for three vehicle lanes North, and three south. The center lanes are closed - why? Perhaps due to dynamic load Vs. bridge condition.

Try this. Open the center two lanes to vehicle traffic. Close the outermost two lanes to traffic using jersey barriers, making them bicycle only.

There are few Charles River crossings. Each must accomodate cars, pedestrians **AND** bicycles. Bicycles are presently left out, because the bridge deck is scary and motorists are belligerent. Please alter this crossing to accomodate bicycles - by all appearances it's easy to do, by shifting traffic to unused lanes (in a way that places no more stress on the bridge)
