Chesapeake Trail Western Branch Corrotoman River

There is good parking on Rt. 3 and an easy, rustic trail through the riparian forest adjoining the headwaters of the river. Descriptive signage has been provided by the Northern Neck Audobon Society, and The County of Lancaster is the owner. The lower trail runs along an old ox cart path and has some benches midway with a large deck once you reach the river. Enjoy superb water views from the deck, about 0.25 miles from the road. Access for canoes or kayaks carried in can be made at this point. A looping upper trail runs along the ridge above the river back to the parking area. Important, apply bug repellant for ticks and chiggers in summer and respect adjoining private property! Click for a map of the water access sites in the Northern Neck.
