Review: This piece was an early marriage of art and technology. Richard Van Buskirk worked as an engineer but was intrigued with the idea of using emerging computer technology to establish the shapes of the pieces for a welded piece of metal art. He designed the planes of the sculpture and their related angles using then emerging computer technology. In order to actually create the art, he took a welding class at Bates Technical College in Tacoma. Although it looks like a monolith, the piece contains 66 individual pieces of metal.
