As a child, my Dad would bring me to this place to go fishing. I got bored with fishing and would swim or explore the shoreline.

There is a man-made rock-pool which was full of amazing marine life - fish and soft corals. I would don a mask and snorkel and spend hours engrossed in the invertebrate life that clung to the walls of the pool. Some of the soft corals would change colour if you touched them. Some of them would sting you and stain your fingers yellow.

I think this was a very formative place for me.

Passing there the other day for the first time in over 30 years I noticed a man standing out where my Dad would stand to fish, and a shirtless young boy doinging just what I used to do - exploring.

King's Beach, Caloundra, Queensland.
