Designed by James Thomson in 1900, this is one of the city's most ornate buildings. The Connal Company was an iron makers who had their offices covered in carvings and portraits. The style of the building is said to be taken from the Ritterhaus in Heidelberg, Germany. You can see a carved train and other iron products carved into the window pediments
This carved head, along with the other carvings, was made by the sculptor James Young. This head and the others, show powerful characters holding up the columns beside the windows. The whole building is made of Locharbriggs sandstone.
