The Czech Republic has a high immigration to emigration ratio. The main motivation for immigrants to come to the country is improved economic opportunites. The nation has a declining work force due to the aging of the population and thus immigrants come to join the labor force. The country has a problem with high rates of illegal immigration but the situation is improving due to the fact that the Czech Republic joined the EU in 2004 and adopted stricter immigration policy. Also, the government is working to create incentives for people to try and gain residency in the country legally through pilot programs which grant permanent residency to immigrants who came legally,. worked for two and a half years, and are qualified.
