Overall, the UN has estimated at least 200,000 Darfurians have been killed, but up to as many as 450,000. There are also estimates that 2.5 million Darfurians have been displaced into refugee camps in neighboring countries.


Currently, there are now problems arising with Sudanese oil, as up to 70% of oil revenues funds the Sudanese military who are carrying out these attacks. China is the main investor in Sudanese oil, as they funded the construction of the Defra oil pipelines and purchase about 40% of Sudanese oil. The Chinese government has the opportunity to pressure the Sudanese government into ending the conflict, however, they have not done so because they are solely focused on their economic interests and retaining good relations with Sudan. Recently, the rebels have carried out attacks on the Defra oil fields, but these have not had any significant effect.
