University of Cincinnati Raymond Walters College
Goals:
The primary purpose is to bring together a group of faculty members from different disciplines and backgrounds, multimedia specialists, and librarians to plan, develop, use, and test digital learning objects that can be used to enrich and supplement existing curricula. To accomplish this purpose, the following four specific goals will be pursued:
* Identify desired learning objectives for the course(s) taught by each participant;
* create learning objects intended to translate the identified learning objectives into learning outcomes;
* incorporate the created learning objects into the classroom; and
* conduct classroom-action research studies to examine the effects of the learning objects on student learning.
In order to gain proficiency in planning, designing, and creating digital learning objects, learning community members will fulfill the following learning goals:
* Acquire a more complete understanding of learning objects, their connection to instructional design theory, and their use in higher education;
* become familiar with web-page development tools;
* gain technical expertise in converting images and texts into digital files for presentations or online use, and in converting video files into streaming format;
* obtain the technical knowledge necessary to create web-page based, multi-media rich learning objects,
* get acquainted with copyright and intellectual property issues that may arise in the planning, development, dissemination, and implementation of learning objects; and
* learn about how to place the created learning objects into repositories or digital libraries.
