NOTE: If you do go to Dog Fish Point, please keep things very discreet while there. Park only where parking is available, don't make a big splash at the beach, etc. This is a very small beach and the locals are trying to keep things very low key there so it doesn't bring official scrutiny.
Dog Fish Point(Teddie Bear Cove got closed down several years ago as it was part of Laribee State Park).
Dogfish Point is where the nudists moved to . . . a little bit further south along Chuckanaut Drive. Dogfish Point is located on private beach front (Taylor Shellfish Farms) . . . although that property is not posted or signed as such.
The standard approach is by way of a trailhead at a small parking lot at milepost 12 on Chuckanaut Drive. You park, hike down the trail to the railway tracks, take a right (north) on the tracks and aprox another mile up you will come across the point on the left where the tracks curve. The giveaway is the heavy cable barrier on the right of the tracks near the steep slope. The trick to hiking the rails is to keep awareness for trains both fore and aft. They say the tracks sing with an approaching train and give adequate warning. I have witnessed the singing . . . you've got about 15 seconds to get off the tracks. Even so, I have never had a problem with BN enforcement of their right-of-way though occasionally you do see track maintenance walkers.
The easier way to get down to the beach is to continue north about a mile up Chuckanaut Drive to the next Scenic Viewpoint and Memorial where you can park. Facing the sound and beyond the low stone wall is a trail leading down. It is very steep and treacherous but with good shoes accomplishable. Fortunately, it is short and brings you down the slope right at that cable barrier across from the point. Walk around the end of the barrier, across the tracks and down onto the beach.
The beach is divided into two by the point. The southern section (the Rock Garden) is reasonably protected from the wind. The northern more exposed. The Rock Garden is where the regulars hang-out and they have a great firepit where they like to warm up when they have a fire going (bringing firewood to add to the stash is considered good practice.) The point, itself, is a small outcropping of bare rock that has some nice secluded spots to lay back in and relax.
