Doulton Fountain, Glasgow Green

This amazing fountain was badly vandalised, but was restored and reopened in 2005. It once had many spouting water jets and some of the finest Victorian sculpture in the city. Now that it has been restored, this terracotta fountain is worth taking a very close look at. Statues showing the peoples of the empire are ranged around the fountain, and on the top is a very detailed figure of Queen Victoria. The whole fountain was made by the Doulton Company with design by AE Pearce and modelling by W Silver Frith. It was made in 1888.
