A 27-year-old Cooktown man has been charged following a series of events in Cooktown that led to his arrest in the early hours of this morning. Police were conducting patrols of the Cooktown area in search of two men allegedly involved in a disturbance at a Hagarty Close address around 12.20am. Police allegedly located the vehicle being driven by the two men in May Street after it had reversed into a bus. The driver was arrested. Police will allege that he returned a breath alcohol reading of 0.132%. The man was charged with driving under a twenty four hour suspension following an alleged arrest for drink driving earlier in the evening. The man was further charged with driving over the general alcohol limit; he was held in custody and will face Cooktown Magistrates Court today. Police investigations are continuing in relation to an alleged assault involving the two men and allegations of dangerous driving, further charges are expected to be laid.
