East Lake Hot Springs

Address:
Newberry National Volcanic Monument, Oregon, USA

Category: Hot Springs-soakable

Used in the following map:

C/O Hiking & Soaking in the Western U.S. & Canada

GPS GeoCoords: 43.7199, -121.200366

The hot springs occur along the south shore near the palagonite tuff headland. Temperatures as high as 176° F have been measured, but the hot spring water is diluted by lake water. The level of East Lake has varied 15 feet historically so at times of high water the springs are totally submerged. At times of lower water small pools can be excavated in the beach.

Historically, the East Lake Health Resort used these hot springs from 1913 to 1941. There is now no evidence to the remains of this resort.

Directions are the same as for Paulina Hot Springs except you continue further east to East Lake. The springs are on the SE shore nearby where there are several boat ramps and trails.
