Echo Summit
Category: Abandoned Ski Areas
**June 2009**
Trails: Overgrown in places with some taller shrubs, but some trails (especially near the bottom) still skiable with enough snow probably.
Lifts: Supposedly, the mountain's 2 main chairs were removed and sent to Iron Mountain (these are likely the 2 Riblets sitting in the parking lot there). Also found what appeared to be a concrete base pad near the bottom, along a single round metal base for a lift of some kind nearer the top of the ski trails. In addition, also found a small bullwheel in that area, along with some smaller sheaves and twisted metal and cable that appears to have been from some kind of surface lift. This was roughly in a linear fashion to the concrete base pad thing. The metal tower pad appeared to go up a strange steep double fall line to nowhere.
Facilities: Boarded up lodge still sits at the base area, though this MAY be used for snowplay in the winters.
Accessibility: The area today is used as a "snow-play" area, which I assume means its for sledding and, probably, "earn your turns" skiing. The area is gated during the summers, but parking for several hiking trails (Pacific Crest Trail, Tahoe Rim Trail) is just outside of this gate, and those trails criss-cross the old ski area.
