On December 6th, 1989, the 14 women named on this plaque were murdered here, at L'Ecole Polytechnique of the University of Montreal. Located on the outside of the building, the Ecole Polytechnique Plaque names each of the women in a circle, giving her date of birth and date of death. The plaque says nothing else, in compliance with design guidelines written by the University. After the massacre, offers poured in from around the world to freely give the University a memorial. This design was chosen.
