Auschwitz was the most lethal of Nazi concentration camps because it was divided into three parts. In Auschwitz there was a prison camp, a slave labor camp, and an extermination camp. Elie Wiesel arrived in Auschwitz on May 16, 1944 and was placed in both Auschwitz I and Auschwitz II.
* victims- 90% of Auschwitz victims were Jews, and 1900 vicims were Roma Gypsies. Auschwitz targets any "undesirables.' This includes Blacks, Jews, homosexuals, gypsies, communists, mentally disabled, social democrats, etc. These type of people were a threat to the purity of Germans, who believed they were the "Master Race."
** Estimated Death toll- Between 1.1 and 1.5 million people died at Auschwitz.
***Aftermath- Germans destroyed many parts of the camps. In 1945 the abandoned Auschwitz and it has now been converted into 'World Heritage Site.'
