GREEN-HOUSE COMPETITION

Category: Competitions

Used in the following map:

ISEC

Community Organized Recycling Efforts organized a competition between greek houses on the UIUC campus from Nov. 5th-16th , 2007. It was very successful. Some information on how the competition was run is below.

Rules and Regulations of the Competition

* A fraternity and sorority will be paired up and will be a collective team along with a CORE Coach.
* You cannot start collecting your recyclables before Monday Nov. 5th
* Each team must fill out the feedback survey by Nov 16th at 5pm and drop it off at the University YMCA in the box provided at the front desk.

Point System for Recycled Materials

Points for the total amount of material recycled will be assessed by the CORE Coaches. The point system will be recorded as follows:

For every 10lbs of plastic - 1pts
For every 10lbs of aluminum - 2pts
For every 10lbs of paper - 3pts

The point system was designed with prior knowledge about what materials are more valuable when recycled. Paper is more valuable due to its high density of mass. It is also known to fill up landfills the most. Therefore, we weighted this material with more points. However, though paper will be weighted the highest, please DO NOT shy away from collecting mass quantities of plastic or aluminum. Having high quantities of these materials will generate a lot of points as well.

For more information on how the competition went please go to the CORE site.
