Harris Hall houses the School of Education and contains numerous classrooms.

The building was named after Alfred Harris (1854-1920). Mr. Harris a graduate of Howard University's Law Department, introduced, drafted and pushed through the legislature a bill that fulfuilled the Readjuster Pledge to provide higher education for blacks in Virginia. The bill provided for the establishment and maintenance of Virginia Normal and Collegiate Institute. This act also provided that this state school should be placed under the control of a board comprised of blacks.
