High range drink driver arrested after traffic crash, Smithfield

A 19-year-old Manoora man was arrested and charged with driving a motor vehicle whilst under the influence of liquor or a drug and unlicensed driving after a single vehicle collision on the Captain Cook Highway at Smithfield on Friday. It is alleged the man lost control of his Ford Falcon sedan on a roundabout and collided with a light pole shortly before 8am. The man allegedly returned a breath alcohol reading of .174%. He is due to appear in the Cairns Magistrates Court on January 18.
