Mendip View was for many years used as a newsagent by the Hodder family. It started in 1888 and George Hodder is described as a coal miner and newsagent in the 1891 Census.

In the 1901 Census, George is a coal miner and his wife Elizabeth is the newsagent. He is described as a shopkeeper in the Kelly's Directory of 1906. After Elizabeth the shop was run by her daughter Millie until her death in 1951 and then Cliff and Kitty Hodder.

Subsequently the shop was run as a newsagent by Brian Gould (1968-72), then Bernard Plumb, then Wayland Cox and then Joan Pierce. On 1 March 1989 the building became Supremes, the hairdressers.
