The best preserved beach on the strand along with the park's freshwater lagoon, salt marsh and maritime forest are outstanding examples of the state's natural environment and beauty, providing prime habitat for various birds and wildlife. The park is also the site of Castle Atalaya, the former winter home of noted American sculptress, Anna Hyatt Huntington.
