I am self taught in visual art through personal experimentation and curiosity. My education is in modern dance and improvisational theatre. In the past I have worked with very brightly coloured oil pastel on paper (which I will also be shown in the studio tour). Recently I have been painting with fabric dye on large silk banners. I like to be able to use my whole body when I work in order to let my energy flow freely. Painting on silk in the quick and spontaneous way I like to work is unpredictable and freeing. I cannot hold on too tightly to my expected outcome as the silk and dye have a special dance of their own; the dye and colours bleed and the colour is absorbed rapidly into the silk. I never know how the silk will turn out in the end. This at times is frustrating but is also magical and exciting!
