James Sellars' House
Address:
W George St
Glasgow, Scotland G2 4, GB
Category: Historic Building/Architectural Interest
144-146 West George Street
This building was built by James Sellars in 1879, and started its life as the New Club.
This elaborate sculpture on the doorway was by John Mossman, and shows figures bearing wheat and a scythe on the left and grapes and wine on the right, symbolising a place of good food and drink.
These beautiful oval windows show what a fine place this would have been, as unusual shapes of glass were not cheap. This building is now an office.
