Kansas Nebraska Act 1854
Category:
The Kansas-Nebraska Act of 1854 was in essence a compromise, the North getting to start the trans-continental railway in Chicago and the South getting the territories of Kansas and Nebraska put to a popular sovereignty vote on slavery. Northerners became enraged, as this act directly violated the compromise line established in 1820. These angers would be displayed in the violence that would erupt when the voting was to commence.
