Kennedy Memorial
This fine bronze was a gift to the City of Glasgow from Scottish New Yorker W.S. Kennedy. Kennedy offered the sculpture to his native city in 1867, and the transatlantic link is made stronger by the fact that there is a replica of the same sculpture in Central Park, New York City.
The sculpture was made by Auguste Cain (1822-94) from a sketch by French artist Rosa Bonheur. It shows a Bengal Tigress carrying a peacock to her cubs for feeding. The sculpture needs attention, as it has been vandalised.
