In 2002 I graduated from Malaspina University-College with a Diploma in Fine Arts and a fond interest in printmaking. In 2003 I decided to make the Comox Valley my home where I studied Greenhouse Management. It was at this time that I began to forge my two passions –art and gardening.
My goal is to waste nothing, I find endless ways to incorporate organic material into my artwork.
I became fascinated with gourds , a plant belonging to the sqauash family that has been used for centuries by many different cultures as food vessels, artistic mediums, and musical instruments, My gourd art represents a continuum of growth, maturation, and regeneration beginning with the germination of the seeds and continuation of the aged organic vegetation I incorporate onto the surfaces of the gourds. These natural transformations enhance the character of each piece and bring it to life.
My hope is to engage people with nature and draw them in to take a closer look at the wonder and beauty of the gourd itself and the appliqued natural material our earth mother gives us so lovingly.
