Kinbasket Hot Springs
Address:
British Columbia, Canada
Category: Hot Springs-unsoakable
aka Canoe River Hot Springs
Location is approximate, better coords forthcoming.
This hot spring used to be a 5-star hot spring until the construction of the Mica Dam at the headwaters of the Columbia River greatly increased the size of Kinbasket Lake in 1973. The springs are in a geothermal lease area that was just transfered (April 2006) to Comstock Energy who intends to drill a geothermal well to produce electricity. If the results of that test well are not satisfactory, the owner will probably develop a hot springs resort in the area and I have been informed that the owner of Comstock Energy is a hot springs enthusiast.
The original springs are now submerged for most parts of the year except winter when the water levels in Kinbasket Lake are lower. The water comes out of the ground at 156F . . .
