The Royalists lost their best infantry leader Sir Bevil Grenville during the daring assault of his Cornish foot on Wallers position at the top of the hill. At nightfall the hill was still disputed, so Waller withdrew into Bath, and his old friend, now enemy, Ralph Hopton, to Marshfield to the north.
